Get calls every now and then off local farmers and friends with a tree down. Just go and muller it, give them what they want (if they want any of it) take the rest for myself and split it / store it at home. Bag all my sawdust and give it back to local farmers as bedding. Enjoy using my stihl toys and axe, keeps me fit (ish) and most importantly...... stops the misses moaning in winter that shes cold! [emoji108]

A local tree surgeon drops off wood at my place on his way home for a small donation if he is doing a job locally.  I only have one stove so he alone can deliver more than I can use in a year.  I get the stuff he does not want himself so mostly softwood and stuff that is hard to split.  I then cut, split and dry it all myself.  The exercise and satisfaction of hitting lumps of wood with an axe is as much of the interest in the wood as the cheap fuel and enjoyment of the fire itself.

Bowlandstoves,

A favourite saying of my Uncle Tony, a lifelong bachelor and as mad as a box of frogs,

unfortunately genetics being what it is, and Tony being my fathers brother,

I sometimes see "the Tony" in me coming out.

Such is life.

When starting a job, he often said "let the dog see the rabbit", i.e. clear the site so as one could see the wood from the trees, so to speak.

Marcus, the Hat.

We have a 400m2 isolated farmhouse in the Welsh boarders which we heat from a Stovax 14HP log burner.

Its the first time I have seen a stove quoted in Horse Power ( but why not )  It is equal to 10.29 KW .
