Advice on cherry picker positioning for wall work.

As a novice on access lifts I'd really appreciate some advice. I've recently bought a second hand lift for general maintenance work on my house which has three floors. Apart from having gone up in it and made sure I know which levers do what, I'm not knowledgeable in how to get the best out of it .

I'm wondering whether it's best to reverse a towable cherry picker arse first towards the wall or have it side on to the wall in order to repoint and possibly re-harl it afterwards. Which position will give me the most allround access to the wall without having to continually up the jacks and move it?

It's a Niftylift 120.

Cheers

What did you get, and how high does it go / how far can it reach? Can I ask what sort of cost it was? My house has three floors too, and needs a fair bit of work... Could make back the cost fairly quickly in not having to shell out for scaffolding etc. perhaps.

Cheers.

I’d say probably drive alongside if possible, so easier to move along.
worth studying chart that shows reach/outreach

Got the paperwork that shows the outreach. Presently it’s broadside onto the wall but limiting me to a small area to work on

Niftylift 120, which has a vertical lift of around 10 metres plus however high you are, so around 12 metres in total. 5 metres outreach max, but certainly not when it’s fully extended. 4.5k

Thanks. Sounds good, but quite pricey. I could get a lot of scaffolding for that! Be interested to know how you get on with it and if it works as well as you hope.

A lot of money but handy for not having to wait for a tradesman, doing gutter cleaning, and not having to use ladders is a real bonus for me. I also have farm out buildings including a big new barn that needs painting. Another thing is that (like an older digger) it will probably not lose me too much money if it's still operational when i decide to sell it.

Scaffolding is great but still requires ladders and more hassle to move for each job

I've never used one. But assuming there are support legs I would have the trailer and truck parked alongside the wall, still hitched up. The attachment to the truck and the length of the trailer would surely make working over the truck (or further) and over the back of the trailer more stable than over the sides. Four wheel site pickers with no legs always feel better down the length of the chassis rather than over the side, in my opinion.
