Muck truck/power barrow

im sure someone with a welder could. Its not that fast especially in reverse. We use to stand on the rails when towing the chipper as it would add extra weight creating more traction.

Mine had all the grunt but was so light that it couldnt grip.

A local platform hire shop i know uses one, they welded a old oil drum onto it and filled it with blunt grinder teeth to give it weight and traction.

They have been tickling my imagination - as plenty of the petrol 4" woodchippers on ebay for £1500 will fit in or on a tracked barrow - and then you have a tracked off road chipper , just shy of £3000 . Plus a powered lil truck to move yr logs K

Wheeled or tracked power barrow is a choice to make (I have both)

Tracks will go anywhere, but turning will mark the ground

Wheels are faster, won't rip the grass up when turning, and (esp. on a hard surface) tyres will last longer than tracks.

The genuine muck truck is a great bit of kit, very simple, not much to go wrong.

A walk behind machine will tow, but you usually have to do it in reverse which can be fairly slow!

If there's long distances and money involved then the load capacity will be a problem. If you're just pottering about in your own time, or working in tight spots, then a power barrow is ideal.

I think when I bought my Muck Truck Max it was about 1600 +vat new, probably gone up since

The timber needs to be removed so it's going to be painful and slow bringing in out but even more painful having to carry it out one or two pieces at a time without some sort of machine.

Thanks for the input everyone.

Figured that hire costs are around £180 per week, we can only be on site for 4 days one week and 3 the other so that £360 will go towards the purchase of a machine. That's without the other days that it's going to be needed.

Will always have it for the other jobs afterwards too.

Why not use a quad and wide tyred trailer? farm type one would drag a chipper with ease. i had one for fun that got used to tow cars into my old workshop was only a 125 fun thing but it had some grunt. once you have finished on the job, sell it on and you won’t have lost anything as they hold their value
