Do you mean off the same tractor? I think the only way to do that would be to run the splitter through the log deck lift pipes.

I tend to wait until we get a stack of 20tons or so of oversize before splitting and put it through the big splitter for billets as a separate job.

The 35x tractor probably would run the 8ton but that's only used for making stakes and I think the cost of converting to pto (it's only hydraulic couplings and the 35 hasn't got working ones) would cancel any gains.

Yes with a pto pump on the 35x output shaft and pump stub shaft runs pto to processor.

Do you think producing billets then crosscutting again is more efficient than just ringing up oversize then splitting?

We supply billets for biomass boilers so it's different for us but I would probably rather put chunky billets through the processor than split rings multiple times.

I doubt there's any real difference in time, just nice to take advantage of the processor conveyor and maybe less lifting?

Dont do it. Tried for one year and never again. Just eats time.

Ring and spit has proved far quicker

Agreed, just curious why gdh did. We have all the handling gear for rings, just need to increase processing speed.

It seems a question of taking whatever roundwood that is on offer this year due to the shortage in the South.

Anyone know of any processor hardwood in Devon or Cornwall?

TCD sorted us out. Not sure if he has any more left though

Been waiting since March - he had some bean sticks few weeks back -  said Nov 2018 soonest now !

MD has nothing whatsoever either and he shifts a lot of timber.

Neither have the usual bigger suspects.

The mills have lowered their spec. so some of what we may have had is going their way now.                     All fairly depressing ?

So here my 2ps worth on splitters.

You have the equation of speed/power/cost  more power you go for the slower it unless you are spending more. Having researched this loads when getting our splitter I did see a lot of Pros just using the 13 tonne Thor. Having gone for an 18 tonne machine I can see 13tonne is plenty enough for the majority of rings. Now I am a one man band and not built like the Hulk so went for one with a winch to get the rings up onto the table. Pretty pleases with our Krpan but if money was no object and we had a tractor that could move it I would probably go for one of these and fit with a large table. I did see that one of the large imported kilned log suppliers on here was asked how they did all the logs and why they were so neat. He said they just used lots of guys smallish vertical splitters.

Any idea of the 13t Price - couldn't find an indication online ?

Presuming you mean the Thor. No cant remember what I was quoted. Some info later on in this thread but it's some years out of date
