One of my employees just potentially cost me £1,000's and a huge headache today, by 1 act of foolishness..

I will remmmebr that for sure...

Swings and roundabouts...

Exactly. How much has that employee made for your company.

I wrote off a company truck a good few years ago when I was PAYE. Totally my fault. Friday afternoon and just plain not concentrating.

I felt awful, but pretty much nothing was said about it. Maybe because I'd worked hard for that company for around 6 years as their crew leader and wasn't known for recklessly breaking shit.

Reading through this thread,2 things strike me

1 Guys are under pricing there work.

If your day rating then set a price and stick too it,if you know your worth it then dont sell yourself short.

I was guillty of under pricing just to get work but its a mugs game.

2  This is going to sound shite but when im hirrd in as a climber, i climb i come out the tree i walk.

Now that sounds harsh but when im hired on a day rate i ll drop my harness and batter in with the lads but if im hired to dismantle a tree thats what i do,its on the deck im done.

Ive definetly lost work, cheap work, but when i graft i earn good money for reputable companies.

Simple answer to this thread is unemployment at 43 year low according to the news.

Only if you believe the figures thrown about Mick. Take out the government job avoidance schemes like  further education and add that to the numbers on permanent sick notes, early retirees and the unemployable that just bounce their unproductive arses around from one job to the next  there would be a different picture painted .

......... And the gig economy, and zero hours contracts. It's quite easy to see we have full employment...

I think by any measurement unemployment is low. Those of us (like you) who remember the early eighties, can understand real joblessness especially youth unemployment.
