Climbing dead trees ? Any bad stories??

I know it's an obvious question but could you not just have felled the whole thing into the wood and saved climbing it?  Maybe the pictures don't do it justice and there's a good reason for not straight felling.

The woodland wasn’t owned by the people I was working for and I didn’t want to go crashing the whole tree down there. Plus there is a small wire boundary fence between the pop and the woodland.
