When I enquired further, it turned out he'd taken down an 80' Eucalyptus by going up it with a pocket of 9" nails, a hammer

That's how we used to get to nests in the rookery when we were kids, just used the nails to get to the lower branches then free climb. We were indestructible then though nearly 60 years ago.

I wonder if professional car mechanics laugh at the DIYers coming out of Halfords with bags of bits?
Plumbers sniggering at DIYers coming out of Plumbase, electricians tittering at the enthusiasts with all their bits from the 'shed' stores... etc... etc...
I would imagine their fori (is that the right plural) are awash with P taking comments about the stuff we probably all do (I know I am guilty) - because it's not that difficult for us.

It's probably as well you can't buy dynamite on ebay.

Yes I guess that’s true, it’s not a massively skilled profession. As long as you stay safe and fit you’ll last. And figure out some rigging method on the day. H&E has stopped a lot of the DIY we can do ourselves I guess. Yes your right mate you’ve enlightened me.

The thing with removals, collateral damage aside, the end result is the same , homeowner or time served tree man 20 years in. I dont think many homeowners could make a nice job of a crown reduction on a medium or big tree , not all 'tree surgeons' can.
