There are always 'tree fellas' advertising on various FB gardening or services groups who often use images which clearly show their competance level to a trained climber yet look impressive enough to Joe Public to win work.

It's usually the number of pegs, rip cuts and dodgy rope work which gives them away.

With the U.K having outsourced alot of arb training to training providers rather than retained training with colleges, pupils are almost guarranteed to pass their tickets in order to keep pass rates high.

The U.K arb world being well saturated as a result.

In France, you generally need to have already studied 2 years to diploma level in a related field in order to be able to apply for arb courses.

There is also a selection 'concours' pre-acceptance to weed out the obviously unsuitable.

There are very few courses under an educational year.

Trees you can diy and may die or kill others, you can diy your own truck brakes without being a trained qualified mechanic and may die or kill others if the brake work is faulty, the only thing you cant risk diy is open heart surgery

Heart surgery, no, but you can DIY your own appendix. https://www.bbc.com/news/magazine-32481442   he was a trained surgeon though...done some crazy tree stuff in my youth, just thought it was no big deal, realise now how incredibly foolish and dangerous it was. Would not attempt same now. It's ignorance is bliss, people just do things because they don't realise it can't (shouldn't) be done.

sounds like your a bit pissed at what your neighbour has done with his tree and  what he said to you about your job being easy, but you have to remember some people are quick learners and naturals at some things and others are just hopeless, 1 lad i know and i have watched him carefully on some other companys jobs has got a cs30/31 and i do not know how he got it, only thing with me that comes to mind is the asscessor on the day was stevie wonder, your neighbour may be the opposite and may of taken to it like a duck to water , ask him for a sat morning and see what his reaction is he may supprise you ,

A mate just told me one of his trunk cuts went through the Thames Water pump station kiosk behind his garden and trashed the pump controls. Tankers pumped the station out for 24hrs until a temp repair was made. The Thames guys were in and out of the guys house. There could be a big bill and court case in that.

I wonder if professional car mechanics laugh at the DIYers coming out of Halfords with bags of bits?

Plumbers sniggering at DIYers coming out of Plumbase, electricians tittering at the enthusiasts with all their bits from the 'shed' stores... etc... etc...

I would imagine their fori (is that the right plural) are awash with P taking comments about the stuff we probably all do (I know I am guilty) - because it's not that difficult for us.

It's probably as well you can't buy dynamite on ebay
