ibcs vs vented bags

Recommended Posts

currently using ibcs stacked outside with lids to season. considering swapping to vented bags to make emptying into truck easier and also save space when they are empty. has anyone moved and is it likely to increase seasoning time by going over to bags? also those of you who use bags do you use a sheet etc if outside?

thanks

I use ibc’s, can’t imagine vented would dry them as fast as a cage, wind whistles through them. Thinking of getting a potato box turner style thing made up to flip them

I use IBCs for a very small scale affair.  The decision as to which you use I would say hinges mainly on how long you want the logs to not be hanging about:  IBCs do a cracking job of drying them.

I can't imagine the airflow (which is king) being the same through vented bags unless you're on an exposed hilltop but if you're prepared to sacrifice speed of turnover for ease of handling then why not go for bags?

I tried some bags but the drying times were way worse. Cant beat IBC with hats for keeping it simple. If you are hand balling the logs out of the crates look on the bright side when you see all the crap left at the bottom that you dont send to your customers 😀

There’s a spud farm on Bidspotter at the mo. There’s a box turner and some conveyor tables which look useful for loggers. Auctioneer is Lambert Smith Hampton: https://www.bidspotter.co.uk/en-gb/auction-catalogues/lambert-smith-hampton

What do you use as a lid(hat) on the top of your ibc? Cheers
