Hi all,

currently own a 110 defender but looking at selling it and buying something a bit more practical and economical, but still want a truck/4x4.

whats the consensus on shogun sports? (looking at getting 04 reg for £2500)

If i'm self employed can i register this as commercial and limit the road tax to 250/year?

any insight you guys have much appreciated ?

Get a proper lwb shogun instead. They are really good. If its an 04 the tax will be cheap anyway as the emissions tax changes came in later.

Economical they are not, but loads of power and the auto box is really smooth. I had a 10 plate but I don't think much changed for years except a facelift.

Thanks for the input, what's the difference between a lwb shogun and the shogun sport? I wanted to stay away from the shotguns as they have the 3.2l engine so seemed less economical?

I also thought the older auto box would be less economical than me driving it like a grandad - any truth to that?

As far as I can make out a Shogun sport is a "lifestyle" 4x4, whatever that means. The proper Shogun is the tool for heavy towing and going off road.

The 3.2 will drink more fuel. However it is buttleproof and will pull a house down.

Automatic in the older boxes will be less economical, however they are a lot kinder to the rest of the transmission and engine. Should be good for lots and lots of miles. You normally lose a couple of mpg.

If fuel economy is a major concern then any large 4x4 is not really what you want.

Ahh that's what that means, I did read the difference in some reviews but it didn't clarify it like that, thanks.

I realise I'm not going to get fantastic fuel economy from a 4x4 truck but best of a bad bunch and all that.

Im changing vehicle for going freelance climbing. Something with some more space for kit in the back and some flexibility with seats and towing capacity really. I'll have a look out for the 'proper' shogun
