Based on the consultation they did I would suspect they’ll ban the sale of logs over 20% moisture in smaller quantities. For example forecourts, supermarkets etc.
Then they’ll expand clean air areas to areas other than towns and cities and ban sales of stoves that aren’t defra approved or efficient enough burning I guess.

How they would police people burning dry wood I don’t know but stopping it being sold will be a start. Might end up with an illegal wet log black market [emoji23][emoji23]

It's quite funny that they are considering these measures to penalise small scale firewood users, whilst at the same time paying hundreds of millions out in RHI payments for larger organisations to burn timber products that are almost never under 20% MC. Seems ludicrous to me.

It's because of the millions that they are paying out in RHI that they will want to recoup some of it somehow, seems like a good idea to tax the sale of woodburners and also tax the sale of logs very highly.  Hundreds of thousands of woodburning people might not agree, but if there's a bob or two to be made from the masses who won't complain too loudly then this government will be happy to make it.

Just like we were mis-sold diesels as being the 'environmental' choice we'll soon enough be heading to a situation where DEFRA approved stoves are sold as the 'environmental' choice for burning wood efficiently..... all while Rocket Mass Heaters aren't on the approved list.

Moronic.

cheers, steve

I think there is comparisons with desiel. Years ago, desiel was cheaper than petrol, but once desiel became popular the price went up.

They've seen the popularity of woodburners and thought 'how can we make money?"

If they were serious about the environment,  there's far more pressing matters they could address.

People being self sufficient,  reducing their heating bills doesn't suit this government

Personally I'm equally worried about them hiking the tax on kero for domestic heating. I am sure it will be popular with those that think only rich folk with AGAs use oil but conveniently forget about all the poor sods that live in old, cold, hard to insulate houses off the gas grid and which won't be suitable for installing air source heat pumps.
