Recommendations for larger strimmer

I use a Echo SRM 520es powerful and great anti vibes. Can be picked up far cheaper than the bigger brands used. Paid £270 last year for a very lightly used one.

That’s good to hear as the dealer in my local town sells Echo.

We now have 3 Echo SRM 520's Never had an issue with them oldest one is 2 years (so admittidly not that old) but they get hammered regularly on pathways and 2 monthly cutting cycles. Only issue we've had one of the newer ones the dead mans switch didnt do anything (but it still worked fine) which was probably a case of one of my guys dropping them. They're happy running 4x7mm techniblade line too so plenty of power for whatever you need. We used to have the 420s with the high torque box but they're not as good imo

Anyone tried the new MM4 makitas?

4 strokes seem heavier for less power....

I have a old 2 stroke makita rbc3101 & its the best strimmer iv'e used prefer it  compared to similar sized hondas & stihl iv'e also used.

Will go though smaller diameter brambles with the bump head line but not old growth or blackthorn or gorse.

I used to be a fishing ghillie and strimmed sections of river banks/paths over 8 miles of river bank. I too detested using a blade with big Stihl strimmers. They always seemed to produce a heavy vibration.

How do you get on with your 35cc 4 stroke Honda and would you recommend the big Kawasaki?

They're 2 very different machines, the Honda you could almost start with your pinky, the Kawasaki needs a good tug!!

The guard as standard on the Kawasaki doesn't let you run a very long line, I tinkered with it to improve it. I'm sure it also came with a rubbish auto feed head - I changed it for a manual one and run 3.3mm diamond edge line.

Both strimmers aren't used quite as much since buying a hayter condor rough cut mower

Worst thing iv'e used for vibes is  karcher pressure washers.

I doubt that 6kg!
I’ve got a stiga version of that strimmer it’s only difference is that the stiga has the full anti vibe handle like the big stihl. That doesn’t weigh much as I’ve taken it off to replace the springs. It’s very very bloody heavy and most of it is the engine! The stihl 400 series are lighter..... but a lot more money with more power.

Also that 53cc Kawasaki is a pig to start!
It’s powerful and works well though.
That said mines been sat doing nothing for a year or more.

Update on the misfiring Stihl FS 460.
Took it back to my local dealer (who to be fair was willing to take it back) and found that the plug had picked up some
(carbon?) deposit between the electrodes. Cleaned it off and off it went again. The engine fires up first pull from hot and second pull from a cold start as it should. It appears to have good compression. Replaced the plug and took it home and used a tankful of mix. The new plug also picked crap between the electrodes after about 15 minutes.
Just wondering if this is carbon off the exhaust port finding its way into the combustion chamber and this might be it on its way out?
