I didn't know that he was associated with Kew, he was however Superintendent at the City of London's Burnham Beeches from 1947 where he managed the sites ancient and veteran Beech pollards.

That's the one.  Interesting chapters on climbing in it. I think I posted a couple of sections out of it a few years ago, about not being full of bravado when climbing trees :D
