They seem pretty good saws, spin up pretty fast and port well. Their main weakness seems to be the oiler worm and the chain brake hinged link that the stud gets worn pretty quickly. Other than that, they punch pretty hard!

Yes all the dolmars  seem to go tighter,  oil and petrol caps

which is better than the other way I suppose

 

the new caps you only have too put The screwdriver end of your scrench  along the slot if it goes tight on you 

 

the brake parts haven’t had much call for them on the saws over 65cc all the sneddings saws under this size I’ve supplied several springs and a few bands the linkage wears on some 

 

coils will die on the older models but a flywheel and coil  from the newer  generation will fit

 

i usualy run the 79cc saws on 24” very nice balance but they will ru; much bigger bars with ease ,matched with a good full chisel skip 

theyll oil them well too

My makita ea5000 has an S shape configuration on the cap, which puts pressure on two points if using a screwdriver to undo it as opposed to the center of the cap which then breaks them. Are the new ones S shaped?

Yup, a bit of porting and a muffler mod gets them going as I am sure Cutter Sy and AndyT will verify!

Yep, definitely some good improvements to be had, they pull damn hard! Really is the best hardwood saw going imo

Another weak point is the air filter. The fleece one doesn’t breath well enough, the nylon one breaths great but let’s through way to much fines. It’s well worth the HD conversion kits from USA.

Yes they do pull well ,  been doing a few HD filter kits the last couple of years

they do a filter in between the standard nylon one and the flock filter
