Out of tension adjustment

I've been viewing this forum for a while and thanks for the tips on milling. I'm not an arborist by trade but I'm a maker welder desgner bloke. So be patient  please.

 

So I've just moved to a 64'' (180 drive links) bar with a 084. But I'm finding the chain a bit trickier that my 36'' bar. New chain and bar. Now its settled in I've run out of tension adjustment on my bar and I'm wondering what the solution is. Chain skips of when I start a new cut. Do I remove a link ( never had this done befor) is there another option. How do I up the oil rate on the bar feed ( I have secondary oil feed at the nose with a dripper)

Yup, loose a couple of drive links.

Oil will be a problem even with the machines maximum setting. You are probably way beyond the factory specified bar length.

Check there is no crap in front of adjuster nipple and you are getting full travel on ajuster.

I drip feed veg oil on to end of bar (same bar as you )i can get through three or four litres milling a large tree.

Thank you gents. Going back to remove links. Will removing 2 links take me back to the beginning of travel or should I remove one link first and then if it's still to long reduce it by a second.

I'm sure you have ,but, the oiler is set to max flow ? checked the filter in the oil tank and there is a good flow at running speed from the oil pump ? The 084 is pretty good oiler and they have no problem running a 60" standard so a extra 4" shouldn't be a big deal. 

If it's a new chain it could just be that in common with a lot of milling "kits" the DL count is given as a cover for a couple of models and maybe not an oiling problem just an extra link too many for your 084 ? As a rule of thumb one DL is around 1/2" of chain so be a little careful knocking them out, you should have 7/8 free links free at the end of the bar . I say 7/8 since Husqvarna and Stihl do vary a bit due how far the bar studs are from the sprocket. I'm trying two 576 XPs on a 72" bar and no problems so a 084 should almost wash a 60" !

Sorry late reply! You need to remove x1 drive link.

 

I had to do this recently on my 64" bar. After removing the drive link then you will be just under midway on the tensioner.
