Subby, apprentice or employee

Hi. Iam a one man band, sole trader with an established business of ten years. I carry out hedge work, shrub pruning, tree surgery etc. Iam nearing 40 and I need to cut my hours as I can't physically do it as I am. I don't want to give up the business but I need help (part time hours I think) sometimes to work alongside me but also someone I can send to a job on my behalf.  I have a couple of subcontractors who help me on bigger jobs but from experience they are not reliable long term as the decent ones are busy themselves.

Has anyone been in a similar position and can offer advice on a way forward that may take my business into the future.

Thankyou.

Apprentice sounds well suited. From your description it could be a mutually beneficial arrangement. Reduce your physical workload, work with you 3 days a week or so which allows for college. Not sure you could send them in your place but could work.
