Best 100ish HP tractor from the 90s era

I’m looking to get upgrade my tractor for more power as I’m starting to do a lot more roadwork and heavy off-road towing, and I will be upgrading my post banger to a heavier one too so need a solid tractor to be the boss of it on hills.

 

I like my tractors to be basic but still with good brakes, 40k and in this case I want a non electrickery 6 cylinder.

 

90s era tractors I’m keen on as they seem to be a good mix of old school basic ness and build quality yet with more modern transmissions/hydraulics/brakes etc.

 

Looking at a Case 5130 as an option as one is for sale fairly near.

Anyone have any other reccomendations.

If you want a 4 cylinder the Valmet 6400 is a good tractor too.  It has a better turning circle and is just more compact.

Yes, I like the valmets, only thing is finding one at a reasonable price- the equivalent Case or Ford  goes for considerably less money. 

 

Definitely has to be a 6 pot. Iv got a 4 cylinder 85hp at the moment which is a fantastic tractor, but just bogs down to much on the hills if you have over 5 ton in the trailer.

Ford 7810, straight 6, 100hp easy to work on. A series 3 with a super q cab would be lovely. The 5130 are good but the pick up hitch is always a weak point if towing heavy trailers regularly. The case would probably be cheaper??

5130 will also kill your bollocks on the road, that series were awful for bouncing

Case 5130 has electrics which can be a problem New Holland 7840 the basic model tractors from the 90s not easy to find most been exported.

If you are going to go bigger with everything you tow and post driver may want to consider going more than 100hp.

Yes, that is a point- but I think anything between 100-120hp would do me. The Same Dorado I have now is a fairly light tractor and only 85hp, it does what I ask of it but i don’t like putting stress on any of my machines- would prefer something that could comfortably handle towing (mainly around 8 ton) and cope with a postdriver weighing approx 1.6t on the back.

havnt Fords got a name for the blocks going porrous or something?

Some models have that problem. Farmer near me runs a case jx95 on a Bryce sumo post driver handle's it OK but I hate the gear box on it.

Select the right tractor and it will appreciate in value,  even my MF135 has gone up 25% since I bought it a few years ago,

 

90s for me it would be a J Deere 50 series with the 3650 probably being favourite,  bags of lift capacity,  6 cyl engines that handle 10,000 plus hours fairly easily.    Late 90s then a Deere 6610,  my brothers run 2 of them,   good reliable tools.

 

A
