mystery tree in windsor

Recommended Posts

started using the bus recently and i pass a tree that i am unfamiliar with and would like someone to put me out of my misery.

it has catkins that were purple to start with and what i thought were berries at the ends of some branches. i presumed it was in the alnus genus but am unfamiliar with these trees so don't know what species it is.

can any one identify it from this image.
