Charcoal hand warmers

If only they did a liquid fuel hand warmer that would run on 2 stroke!

Normal to be working in the snow at this time of year cutting cabbages and very rarely wear gloves. Thankfully I'm not old yet as I am only 53.

It depends what you are used to, not many folks could stand what I do but then I couldn't stand what most other folk do.

Have you tried different gloves, or a liner? If it's cold and wet I wear disposable vinyl gloves under normal work gloves, makes a big difference.

 

I don't really get the purpose of hand warmers, unless you spend most of the day with your hands in your pockets?

I use petrol hand warmers, cheaper copies of the Zippo. I run them on Aspen 4T (cheaper than lighter fluid) and they’ll stay hot for a whole day

I never had much joy with the charcoal ones, they kept going out.

When it's really brutal I use the shakey teabag ones (single use only). Pricey, but they have the advantage that you can pop them into your gloves.

I remember when I was an " oik " sharing one of those with 2 other kids in the play ground . We had proper winters then . Not so much now .

I came across a charcoal hand-warmer in my workshop when I was tidying up on Monday, it was in amongst a whole load of stuff I bought 15 or so years ago, I tried it Monday, the fuel sticks are still OK but they do smell, I kept it in my pocket all day but warmed my hands on it when they got really cold, I was surprised it got as hot as it did and it burned for about 10 hours, I will definitely use it again when it's really cold.

I've found Charcoal hand-warmers are ok. They don't beat sitting in the van with the heating on though.
