Ash tree removal

Question

Hi all

I live in Orpington, South East London and I need some advice on the removal of an ash tree which has outgrown its plot next to my workshop. I hope the attached pictures give an idea of the size and position OK. I am looking for someone to remove it but I would like to, if possible, have the main trunks cut into roughly 6' boards or at least quartered and some of the main branches cut into roughly 6' lengths or maybe longer. I would like to use the boards and branches in a future project (not known yet). Obviously cost could be an issue regarding the milling and if it is too prohibitive then I would forget the idea so then the quote would be to include removal of all material. Also when employing someone to carry out the work, what documents, insurance etc, should I look for?

So if anyone is interested, or know of someone local can come to look and quote, I would be very grateful.

Access can be obtained from the homeowners behind as there is a driveway that goes to a garage. Permission shouldn't be a problem as I'm sure they would like to see it gone as it blocks their light in the summer. Regarding the milling, I wasn't too sure if it was suitable or not so that is why posted here to get an experts view.

There are plenty of firms in and around Orpington mate.

I have recently moved from Hither Green to Oslo, otherwise I would have had a look for you.

if you want a reputable firm, give Ross White a call at Kong Tree care.  If you google them his number should come up.

As for milling, it doesn't look worth it to me and the wire in the stem is not a good start.

Cut to 6ish foot lengths, with a big hammer and some wedges, you could probably break it down into quarters. Leave to season then saw down when you know what your project needs.
Just to add, I know sod all about milling/woodworking, so my be talking out my arse!
