Shoulder and bicep surgery

Just had surgery for a major SLAP 2 tear and a bicep tenodesis. Just wondered if anyone else has had one, t'other or both and any info on complications, healing time etc.

Ooh thats a sore one to get.A mate of mines is a body builder,he tore his bicep and couldnt train for 7 months-even after that it was the gently gently approach.

Obviously yours is different in thats its ligaments.

Your injury will heal but times vary greatly due to several factors-age,general health,what your job entails even how much sleep you get will dictate the speed in which you recover.

Try not too rush it just limit yourself to what you can do and dont do anything beyond your capacity too knock yourself backwards.

I had a detached pec, it was a long recovery. The thing is if you push it too hard too early and tear it again it's much harder to repair a second time..

Hi , feeling sorry for you and the sheer frustration thats about to follow.

I had rotator cuff repairs done to both shoulders as seperate operations. Ligaments in first shoulder torn from bone completely. 9 months later I was able to return to work doing light duties - no shock loadings. For the first 6months I wasn't permitted to lift anything heavier than a bag of sugar, otherwise the nylon braid type stuff they used to replace the ligament would be torn out of the muscle it was trying to grow into. By the time my appointment came around for the second shoulder to have a minor tear repaired, it was too late and this one was also torn beyond redemption, so a repeat of the initial op, with another 9 months rehab. At least this time I was better prepared for being bored, p#$$ed off, and wanting to do everything and unable to do anything.

It was a good time to reevaluate my business and future.

Very best of luck and don't push the recovery time. It really does impact on what you will be able to do in the future.

Had problem with shoulder 6 years ago, all that got me going again was a phiseothopst because doctor never worked out what it was.

I have first physio next week which will be the three week stage. Apparently, there wasn't much left to repair in the shoulder hence the tenodesis op. They couldn't reattach the tendon in the same place so I'm a little concerned with how long it'll all take to heal. First estimates from the occupational therapist have me back to work mid December but that was based only on the SLAP repair. Mostly I'm hearing anywhere between 9 months and two years before fit for heavy work.

I severed both tendons in one shoulder many years ago. one of the most painful experiences of my life. 8 months post op. no driving,over 12 months post op. before light duties.

Tbh it was probably the first time in my life I properly listened to consultants, Drs and physios, . The first 8 weeks post op it was strapped in a sling permanently to my chest, it is something I would never want to experience again, hence the listening . Got 90 odd % movement back .
