Husqvarna 357xp over running

I have several 357xp saws but one I picked up off ebay a while ago has started playing up. It was working fine one minute then it started to over rev on idle. If you look at the picture attached there is something coming out of the engine that looks like a pipe should be attached to (it is the only 357xp I have that has this).

If I put my finger over the end to block the hole it idles fine.

Has anyone seen this before?

Should I just mastic the hole up or is there a part that should fit on the end?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Oh dear, what you have there is the cylinder that used to have the auto deco valve, it has been converted to a standard deco valve, there should be a rubber boot on that nipple or you will have a massive air leak.

I would whip the muffler off that or look down the spark plug hole and make sure the piston hasn't nipped up. These saws tend to go a bit fast and an air leak like this, can cause lean seize.

As ADW said, the connector needs to be plugged - I tend to remove the union, tap the hole and plug with a short bolt if the cylinder is off the saw but the cap would be the simplest option.

Whoever had it before you was a bit of a cock and bodged up the conversion from auto decomp to manual valve!
