Red palm weevils definitely the cause of the wound. Would like to know what the cage is for? Maybe to help with a treatment ? As said on here it's way too flimsy to take the crowns weight. Had to take a lot of these down in Spain over a 10 year period. Absolutely ****** the palm/date industry to the tune of millions of Euros in a place called Elche. All because a townhall brought cheap palms from Egypt...so they say. As I said anyone who comes up with the reasoning behind the cage work... I'd like to know. Thanks

That makes me wonder if the cage has been put there as reinforcement to span the wound and take the bending forces off it.

A tad optimistic if so.:blushing:
