How to descend and work within the tree?

Hi mate. Thanks for the reply. This was pretty much my plan but was going to use a grigri to be able to descend.

You can use it for descend in SRT (single rope technique) and also in a long descend DRT (double rope) to save the prussik cord from burning it in a fast and/or long descend.

How do you descend on a prussik? Surely when it's loaded you can't get the weight off it to move it down?

To use a prussik for descending you must use double rope system: means half of your weight is on one end of the rope and another half in the prussik. You can ascend with a prussik in single rope system but as soon as you want to descend and because all your weight is on the prussik it will be very hard to release... you will have to add some descender/bellay device.

Good shout on putting the prussik on the lanyard, presumably that's so it's adjustable?

Yes, you need a ajustable lanyard, kind of a short-rope secondary climb system because 1-you cannot have a fall on static line so you should not have slack in the system 2.you use your lanyard to adjust your work position so you can actualy do your job confortable and safe.

Unfortunately the show is to far for me to get to this weekend. Might try to get to it next year though.

I would also look at the blake hitch system beacuse if in a change over or if you somehow damage your prussik cord, you can still use the blake hitch (which require no prussik cord) to get out of the tree... Always usefull to know in my opinion.
