Silver Birth for me as well. King of Norway I noticed as I lived there for 5 years and its all they want to burn, even import it from East Europe. Seems to be an open secret here in Scotland.

 

Also it burns well unseasoned.

 

Not sure I'd agree with that, it maybe burnable and better than nothing when green, but is far, far better burned dry.

Visited the Mary Rose yesterday and they have a load of Tudor birch logs that were on board and preserved by the silt. I'm guessing they've probably dried out a bit since coming up in the 80's but it's the only Tudor firewood in existence
