I got a pair of arbortec in January to replace my 3 year old pfanner, to be honest they seem very similar to hiflex and I doubt I'll get much more than a year out of them.

I wouldn't have anything other than Pfanner now, they're more expensive but outlast everything else I've tried by a long way

They are similar fitting to the Hiflex (which was the one good thing about the stihl trousers) but I've had a good 18 months wear out of the Arbortecs and they're still holding up well, which is unheard of with Hiflex.

They're also noticeably lighter too

Don't get me wrong, they're nicely fitting and light weight. Unfortunately most of my work is utility, which mainly means climbing into thorn hedges, which is hard on any trousers!

Have they made a pair of decent saw trousers that'll stand up to that!?

I have two pairs of the sip inovation trousers. One is two years old and the other 4 years. Crotch on one went and then stitching on the fly and the beginnings of the crotch going on the other. Gave em to my neighbour and she sewed um up. The old pair i hadnt worn for two years! Both pairs I got for £130 each, at different times. Amazingly hard wearing- shame about the pocket zips- and still look great after all this time. I was thinking about buying a new pair of trousers, not sure anything is going to be as durable and I could buy two pairs of the sips for one pair of pfanners. Stick to what you know or follow the crowd and get the fashionable strides? [emoji39]

Don't be so ridiculous, fashion wins every time!

Seriously, my Pfanners have always lasted me years, and are very comfy.

I've recently got a pair of SIP Innovation 'stealth' chainsaw trousers (no protection), and I really rate them.

There's definitely some really good keks out there now.

Try them for fit, but they all change a bit after a few days graft.

Also remember that what kind of work you're doing will impact longevity massively.

People like Steve Bullman and myself only climb smooth barked specimen trees, usually after a trainee climber has gone up first and cleaned out crotches, taken epicormic etc. off while we sip lattes wearing our Oakleys.

As I'm close to 30, looking good has become more important.
