Converting my 130 to a tipper

back in july/august i brought a 130 200tdi defender with the idea of turning it into a tree truck, slowly ive been replacing worn and broken bits, and a few weeks ago started to convert it to a tipper

 

here it is

 

 

it was already a dropside pickup, so had a bed for it already

 

a mate had an old transit in his yard, and we done a deal-id remove the buck and keep the tipping gear, ram, and tipping chassis, and he'd have the alluminium sides and floor to weigh in (they were screwed anyway)

 

then took the landy over to steves (nifty steve) yard, and we stripped down the transits buck to leave us with the tipping chassis, we replaced the bottom rail as it had been bent from attempting to lift too much, cut the sides down to suit the landrover, and cut some of the length out of the front to suit the landy

 

 

 

 

we removed the original landy bed and removed the supports too as these were too tall and bolted on some steel channel, then lowered the cut down tipping frame onto the new mounts and welded it in place

 

 

 

 

was just a case of bolting the landrovers bed onto the tipping frame, remounting the lights (new ones on order) remounting the number plate, and bolting a diffrent power pack on (yet to do) as the transits one appears screwed

 

i also wanted a tool box big enough for an 880 with bar, and room for more saws, but which diddnt affect the load area, so we forgot about the mounting closest to the cab, cut the bottom rail of the tipping chassis down and hey presto an area under the body, big enough for saws

 

 

 

the resulting height of the tipper is less than 2inches higher than the original bed

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

oh and it cost £96 to convert

Personally i would keep the rims, as they are well siuted to carrying a 130, and reshoe them with some BFG mud terrains. I get 285.75.16s for 135 fitted, which are oversize, i reckon you could get 4 265s for about 480 (thats fitted inc vat BTW.)
