OP- it's not just logs, when was the last time you went into a chippies and genuinely knew the quantity of chips a large was, and it varies from shop to shop and its most fustrating not knowing if they are chips that have sat in the fryer all evening or nice fresh chips. Let alone variety of potatoes. So I just get oven chips from Lidl:lol:

I think the OP is describing a very common situation. I see some appalling timber in pub's, it only burns as they mix it with coal.

The reason it's so common and continues is the fact that so many people have no concept as to how good well seasoned timber burns.

Many years ago I used to supply a local log seller, he would collect and deliver the split logs, he was more than happy to collect green willow and deliver it straight to his clients :001_huh:

And the fish! Pollock sold as Cod, Haddock cheaper per kWh, it's absolutely disgraceful. Atleast when you buy cheap and nasty meat from a supermarket, each packet weights precisely 500 grams. If Tesco can take a natural living product, add some water and meet a weight spec, what are these heinous firewood merchants playing at?!

It's a crazy world! Just heard about a bloke that drove a 56 plate cabstar type truck from SE London to SE Cornwall on Saturday, broke down twice en-route, to collect 3 dumpies of logs from the Crocadon closing down sale at £7 per bag, to be dropped in Coventry!

Logs: can't rightly figure why anyone would willingly want the hassle and moans of doing it commercially. So much time, effort and sweat to do it right and what seems like so little return or appreciation.

Hats off to the "good guys" that have jumped in to defend their professional and moral reputations.

If you buy cheap, you get cheap!

Why not reject the delivery? If it is not as stated, don't pay, turn it away on the spot. No one learns if you except it.

Exactly. The customer has to take SOME responsibility. Rogues in every trade and industry fact of life unfortunately.

As for log sizing one guy thinks they are split perfectly, one guy thinks they are too small and the next things too big. Huge range stoves these days its difficult to please everyone
