Budget today

It would be fair if the Gov paid all self employed people 5 weeks holiday pay (and public holidays as well for that matter) say at an average of their weekly pay, per year and sick pay as well. Health service staff and local and central Gov staff all get 6 months full and 6 months half pay after 5 years of employment. Even after all the cut backs of the last few years there are still tens of thousands chair shiners surplus to requirements.

They have no concept with regards to the risks or difficulties and stress of genuine self employed people. I blame the BBC for all this as their dodgy contracts allowed a lot of their high earners to wriggle out of their tax obligations with none of the genuine risks/stress of real self employment. Why it took the tax man so long to discover this we will never know!

Very well put 👍🏻

It appears that the backlash is well established and (fingers crossed) we may yet see a reappraisal.

An example of those within the Westminster bubble trying to fix a problem that (predominantly) exists within similar bubbles but potentially missing the broader impact upon the "normal" working person.

What an utterly rubbish budget:thumbdown:

I guess thats what happens when there is zero opposition, the tory's just aren't even trying now. I think there may be some back peddling on the NI hike.

 may have to change my name to vespasian

Wondered what you was gettin at at first LOL,,

Yea, you might have a place reading the tea leaves.. though the timing of the change of heart was down to Nicola Sturgeon...

Always a good time to bury bad policy decisions during a media storm about somethin else..

What's wrong with having a punt, realising you got it wrong, putting your hands up and doing it right?

Isn't that to be applauded?

Just a view but, wasn't it actually the case that the majority of reasonably paid SE'd were relatively unaffected by the proposed changes? The trouble with what happened was, IMHO, that it was the pseudo SE'd, high paid exec types (like BBC for example) that were formerly employed, then changed to SE so the employer could benefit from lower NI that muddied the pitch for the rest of us Honest Jon's. It's just that the Westminster bubble couldn't see past the M25 and the media and vote chasers have caused the reversal??

The government mis-read the strength of public and small business opinion - even in the absence of a viable opposition - they have corrected their misjudgement.

That's good no??? :confused1: Act, listen, reassess, adjust.... Maybe the order could be better but now we're asking a lot....

Yes, good points Kevin

To be honest it wasnt very well thought out as well as breaking election pledges & I suspect Hammond may not be chancellor for much longer

Mis-read!, or trying to pull a fast one?

It was nothing more than a tax on low/middle earners.

Throwing your hands in is one thing. Standing up and appoligisng is another.

The problem with having a punt when you don't know what you are doing costs whole Tenners. Jokeing, Mr Johnson.
