Do you actually like what you do?

I have read many posts about guys changing/starting new careers to become tree surgeons albeit starting their own business or working for someone else. There has been many different replies about the pros and cons, however, what I haven't seen is anybody asking if you actually enjoy your work. It can be very expensive, it's hard, dirty work, and physically demanding, yes I get all that, but do you actually enjoy it, would you change your career if you could?

Tommorow i return to work doing a job i love (more of a way of life for me) working for a man i went to college with and began our life working with trees together.

Not the best paid, weather & conditions can be difficult but for satisfaction...oh yes.

It's not work when you love what you do, I wouldn't do anything else apart from maybe international playboy

I have never done anything else and wouldn't do anything else once u get saw dust in ur blood u never look back

Lifes to short, if you don't enjoy the work you do, then get out of it and do something else.

I'm a joiner now working for the nhs, and yes i love my job, and love working with wood, being on sites like this one, opens your eyes further and makes you want to learn and do even more. Without the people on this site, i wouldnt of dare attempt to do milling or carving.

i wouldn't change my job as I enjoy what I do, I like working with the guy we have with us at the moment the team spirit and everything that goes with it.

 

I think pay is improving although far to many guys selling themselves short, (not talking individuals I mean the businesses and bonafide contractors).

 

I do not live to work though, I work to live the flipside is having a passion for it does make it easier to appreciate results in your hard graft, what I mean by that is I don't resent working 6 days a week often doing 12 hour days. If I did resent it then I would look to change career.

Yeah i enjoy what i do for a living,some days can be a stone cold bummer,weather conditions,machines breaking down,members of the public getting on my tits,but all in all i like my job and i wish i had discovered tree work in my 20's

I enjoy the job but, partially my bad business skills, am not earning enough to sustain my very modest lifestyle. Would probably be better off employed but the flexibility of running my own thing can't be beat. If I had my time again I would be a sparkie. I just feel like I am chasing my tail all the time and the public don't appreciate quality work the only thing that speaks is price- even if the spec is not met!!!
