That's not true I was asked the there day when looking for a secondhand bit of machinery how old could it be, my reply was age not important as long as It's been looked after seen many new bits of kit that are knacked in the first year of there life and 10 year old stuff looking like New .

Could be for tax reasons dave? i know my builder mate just got a new digger and traded his 5 year old perfect machine in, i asked him why and that was his reply. I don't know how it works but he always has new kit.

Tax is only a % of the profit you make, so spending money just for the sake of reducing your tax bill is foolish, IMO.

Changing equipment before it needs work to save on tax, rather than having expense repair bills does make long term sense.

So yes the equipment may still be in good working order, but nothing last forever, so by definition it must be nearer the end of its working life.

A small firm maybe happy to run older gear that needs a little nursing and down time may not be an issue, bigger outfits tend to prefer newer more reliable gear.

As aways only my own view, others are free to see things differently :001_smile:

The person with the 10 year old mint kit is less likely to be selling than the 1 year knacked stuff, IME.

But sure some times you get lucky, but often stuff is given a cosmetic facelift that hides really problems.

We will be borrowing an Avant 745 to do some feeding & also to muck a shed out Wednesday or Thursday, can any one give advice on what we need to look for on this type of machine, We have never used or even seen one before, Any advice would be greatfully received.

What do you want to know?

What do you want to know?

Todays the day, we are borrowing the neigbours Avant 745 to try it out, we have got a couple of jobs in mind, 1 mucking a stock shed out & the other moving some timber around one of our yards, will let you know how it goes later on, We are new to this type of loader & would just like some "pointers" on what to look for & what jobs to do to test the machine.
