I am still not sure, they are about 12 inch in diameter and very straight with very few side branches. I have counted 30 of them in small area. I feel bad as I have owned the wood four months now and just noticed them today.

There are similar but older trees with darker bark and several dead side branches but tree bark grow around the dead branches and covered the wounds. As if they are self pruning !!

You know they've been planted?

It sounds like someone has trimmed the lower branches of the others.

No. the wood has been neglected for long time.

The ground is covered by overgrowth which made it difficult to explore.

There are parts of the wood we have not seen yet.

Do you think they are wild cherry?

The dead lower branches are due to the tree shutting them down as it goes up and the lower branches don't receive usable light.

Show some pics of the form of your mystery tree for a better ID.

The darker ones do look like wild cherry.

They look like they are in a straight line, leads me to think they're planted.
