Homebase "Seasoned" hardwood

Just delivered a couple of bags of our Kiln Dried Logs to a customer. Last week, he bought a net of Seasoned Hardwood Logs from Homebase as he was running low.

The two logs he tried burning used up most of his kindling and the rest of the logs I delivered to him before, to not burn entirely through. He gave me one to put a moisture meter on. It weighs an absolute ton!!

Knowing the way my local Hardware superstore works....

The logs would arrive (bone dry) on a pallet and then be left outside uncovered.

Then a week later when the promotion is due.....forklift them in to pride of place front and centre... Bingo

Don't need a kiln to dry wood properly tho :001_rolleyes:

I've never said you do. It's just the way I do it as it makes business sense to me. However, big brands like Homebase selling the same "seasoned"

Log taints the whole seasoned log industry. There is an expectation that they have applied due process and got a reasonable product. So if their stuff is wet then some people will taint all seasoned wood with that same brush.

'Seasoned' is a meaningless word and unless qualified, can mean anything the seller wants it to.

'You want some firewood? Well, I cut down this oak tree this autumn and it's now winter, so it's been through a season, therefore it's seasoned...' :(

What log sellers should be selling and what people want to burn is DRY wood with an %MC of 20 or less.
