Hi,

Please help me identify this recent storm victim. The leaves (in the summer time) look like elm leaves. The wood smells quite strongly of wine (possibly the reason it fell down ). The fibres are stringy and some of the rings are very difficult to split. Location is Guernsey.

Apologies, I didn't provide lots of pictures originally, because, I thought it would be something that Arb enthusiasts would all know about! I thought it would be a common thing... but I have now added more pictures now. Thanks in advance for any help!

I found this recently in Croxteth Park, Liverpool, UK, whilst walking my dog.

I assume that it is tree resin that has formed inside a hollow branch or trunk?

The best way to describe it would be that it looks like something from one of the Alien films

I also took a pic of the trees at the location where I found it.

I've never seen anything like it and I can't find any information on the web to help me get more information.

I would love to know more about what it is? I would really appreciate anyone's thoughts?

It is about 7cm in diameter and about 17cm long. It is very light in weight. It is very fragile.

You can see the imprint and shapes of things - like potential berries or seeds?

I found it on the floor, in the woods. There was no indication of what or where it had come from.

There was nothing else like it in the general area.

It looks like it has been clean cut at one edge, with equipment (so perhaps from when a tree was cut)

Thanks for any help in advance. I have tried to research on the internet, but can't find anything. I probably don't know the correct vocab to get the relevant results?

Good morning, new to the forum. Hopefully it's OK to post this here?

I wonder if you're able to help me identify this tree. I don't know if I planted it or if it's grown of it's own accord. A single trunk around 4-5" diameter, grown to around 15'. Only one branch coming off the plant at around 4' from the ground. No other branches, which might suggest it's not a tree at all? Perhaps an overgrown shrub??

The bark is fairly smooth with a vertical pattern. I've tried apps to identify it, but none seem to be correct. Your help would be very much appreciated. I have attached photos of the trunk and the leaves.

Anyone recognise this tree?

Hi, I have two, what I thought were horse chestnuts trees, are they? They both look sick especially the one on the right, is it okay? There does not appear to be any conkers on them, may be a few. I am sure they started off back in the spring with lots any idea why they would disappear?
