I am looking to make a change in career, I’m currently in the military but will be out in November this year. So I’m basically just looking for a bit of advice/guidance on where to begin. 
 

I have found local courses (North Wales) that I could start with to become a competent ground worker that include chainsaw maintenance, cross cutting and felling up to 380mm. This would cost around £1200. 
Once I have completed those courses, would I be right in thinking that I would then be employable at around the £80-£100 a day mark? (Considering I don’t have any of my own PPE as yet)

Any help/advice/guidance would be greatly appreciated. 

I currently have these qualifications 

CS30, CS38, Chipper, Pole saw, Emergency first aid at work plus forestry and tractor training, I have plenty a lot of experience chipping, cross cutting and crown lifting from the ground.

Belvoir Tree Care are looking for a climber to join a small growing business based near Melton Mowbray, working across the East Midlands.

Work is a mix of utility vegetation management (National Grid), domestic tree work and larger removals, so it’s quite varied rather than just one type of job.

You’ll be working directly alongside me to start with, with the opportunity to progress into utility arboriculture. I’ll cover the cost of UA tickets, D476 and other relevant training following a successful probation period.

A lot of the work is in rural locations and private land that you wouldn’t normally get access to, and there are also opportunities for shutdown work and emergency call-outs.

Looking for someone who can already climb and wants to progress, not just a ground worker.

Pay

£25k – £40k depending on experience, with increases as qualifications are gained.

• CS38 (must be able to climb and carry out aerial rescue)
• Full UK driving licence

Ideally CS39, but not essential.
