  2. You never actually answered did you, do any of these South African buddies you know look like South Africans? A quick pic to remind you want South Africans look like.
  3. well spotted professor
  4. Probably have a point with Great British Energy, it is too expensive I reckon for the government to buy back the utilities, so have to do something else. I reckon the only option is a start up and build market share. Can do that with electricity or gas sales, would be just like E.On, UU or Scottish Power, each with an electrical generation division and an electrical / gas retail division. Gas and Electrical transmission would be trickier (big gas pipes and electrical pylons) - they are owned by National Grid and the 'space' the electricity or gas used is 'rented' from them by the retail brands. I believe National Grid charges are kind of set though (they are a monopoly), but you cannot just build a parallel system. Can do the same with BT as well - set up a Great British Phone Company. No reason Great British (whatever) cannot be operated along the lines as they are now, requiring a profit to return to the shareholders and maintaining a minimum standard - the shareholder is the government, all profits could be used to improve our lot or tax reductions (for the very wealthy of course - don't want to get carried away). Can't do that with water though, they were sold off differently - the water companies own the pipes and the systems (which is why we cannot change water suppliers), only thing to do there is a buy back.

  7. Could try one of those clothes drying/dehumidifying tent things? Might help contain the smell and avoids putting all that moisture back into the flat. Otherwise a dehumidifier in a spare room, if you have one, is a game changer.
  8. This is a situation where the police are unlikely to get involved. I have recent knowledge of a case where an recently built house wanted the shade from some oak and ash trees reduced by lopping 5 metres off the 20 metre trees. The land adjacent, on which the trees stood, is a private common. The landowner became aware of the plan and told the house owner not to touch his trees. He went on an extended holiday leaving his son at home. The householder had a gang in and topped the trees and would not stop when asked. I received a phone call from Australia asking me to take photos but it was too late. When the landowner returned there was little to be done as it was difficult to put a value on the loss. The only thing |I think could have been done would have been a solictor's letter and a n injunction preventing the work.
  9. Well someone left the keys in the front door didn't they.
  10. They are very good, I've never nicked a pair and would rather these than trousers ,I expect to be shot down soon , but I've never cut arms or wrists , and yes I've done every discipline of Arboriculture and some fair sized takedowns .. However I've seen certain guys bragging how many cuts he had on his arms at the last lv/hv induction at Berkshire was amazing he still had function of his hand . Also one former boss slipped with a sliky after saying top handles are dangerous ..9 stitches later ..they'd have stopped that . £70 a pair and they'll save the damage to your forearms. I've never needed them but should I need them there on. Dunno why the hse ,arb association (seems they like to meddle with stuff ) And utility companies don't enforce the use of them. I expect the will be some one who will winge or have a go .
  11. thank you, that's what I was planning to do exactly, now you have given me a positive example.

  13. That looks a well usable bit of kit, very similar to many of them, I have the cheap as chips Kelfri version as I no longer need a larger commercial rig, but my crane is tractor mounted, seals, bearings, tires, are generally easily sourced and replaced if needed, should you be unfortunate to bend or break anything it can be straightened, welded and made stronger with a little bit of back yard ingenuity.
  14. Why Aye! Dry so far, but no doubt that will change! Up late putting the world to rights and awake early! Tea in bed right now though. Mach, Key, Art, Toe.

    Chickens?

External stimulus. My mate does. Get the fertile eggs from him. Hoping one of the chicks is male. Borne from an outside egg. Won't be incest the first time round.
  17. It’s been an amazing year for things that sometimes struggle with lack of sun/heat. I’m gutted my melons took an age to get started, it would have been a really good year for them and I fear they may not catch up. I left that marrow as a young courgette barely big enough to pick before I went away for five days. Came back to two big marrows plus loads of courgettes. Out of four plants this one is yielding the best by far. The yellow ones I’m really not keen on, funny shapes and get old before they get to a nice size. Aubergines looking the best they’ve ever been too, already ahead of the usual to medium fruits per plant offered up grudgingly at the end of the summer. The drip irrigation has really been key this season, and the weed membrane was the right thing to do also.
  18. I'd happily put the cnuts through a woodchipper.
  19. I love that bike - am annoyed with myself for not bidding on this the other day (it apparently sold for less than £700…)
  20. We could do bamboo!
  21. Cheers Spud. Yeah it's a big bore, i bouhht it from a guy that had it ported, its been running for years....checked the obvious stuff like the inlet and impulse and can't see anything. What would you advise to buy for pressurre/vac?
  22. Probably the greatest visionary politician ever - it was like he had a crystal ball!
  23. Sorry to hear that. Hope you're well.
  24. 200L over six months works out as a litre a day. A couple of big saws would easily gobble that up. My previous 25L Rotatech oil, with still a couple litres left, was opened Jan '24.

  26. No clue but someone should be able to help! Well help with the ident, there isnt usually anything you can do to help the tree or stop the fungi.
  27. I have the Record No.6 fore plane I queued for in the fifties, It was a Saturday morning in a dedicated tool shop, Skeet and Jeffes, and one took a plastic number from a caddy and waited to be called, the service was terrible. It's under my bed to keep it rust free. We have a cluster of asbestos related disease locally, associated with the local gasket factory, the medical officer, my GP in 1972, was in denial about it then, when I left the practice (after 71 years) I noticed his name was not in the practice history.
