The thing is combustion derived pareticulates are implicated in the disease types I mentioned. Silicosis and asbestosis (pulmonary fibrosis) are caused by non combustion derived particulates that are ingested and enter cells. Tyres produce essentially micro plastic but the PFASs come from clothing, cooking utensils and industrial process chemicals, they are far more pervasive than I would have imagined. Because they are "forever chemicals" ,mostly only used since I was a teenager, the long term effects are yet to be seen, we breathe, eat and drink them by the million each day.

FFS, long waffle about burning wood and co2. Well seeing as it's the same co2 released burning vs rotting.

And very heavy

I know, we've been here before a few times I believe. I agree with all of that. I was talking mainly talking about local air pollution, air quality, not global CO2 emissions. The elephant in the room that you didn't mention is the non-combustion particulates that come from cars and trucks. The brake and tyre dust predominantly. I believe that is probably now a bigger issue than engine emissions. Especially with all the bigger, heavier electric cars. That very rarely gets talked about in the promotion of EVs. It's something that requires far greater scrutiny. Urgently. Micro plastics, and the myriad of chemicals within them - yeah, that's the real demon here. We've only just found the tip of the iceberg, in terms of understanding the damage that they're doing to all of us. We're breathing/eating/drinking it in all the time.

Update guys after dropping off to a Timberwolf approved dealer the problem was the plug under the hopper had (corroded pins) it’s the same plug I checked for my self I obviously dident know what the bad pins looked like as they all looked the same just a bit of green discolration so it’s been fixed but cost me a nice few quid for some pins in a plug 😫 hope this helps any one eles with this problem next time I think I’ll try and jump wires over the plug to the other plug wires to see if that works then get a new plug and wire up again when tested 👌 for the fault

Not likely as, like the judiciary, the EA and LA environmental health departments have been starved of funds and cannot afford legal proceedings.

Is there a way the post @aspenarb has pointed to can be tagged with #timberwolf #bearing #replace or some such that a search would find? As the thread title is not a help here.

I agree

This story just took a turn for the worse. It turns out that when West Midlands police did their research into Maccabi Tel Aviv some of their information was just gleaned from social media with no double check. They had to admit yesterday in front of a select committee of MPs that their report even quoted a football match that never took place. And that an incident in Amsterdam last year where a Maccabi fan was pushed into a river was inverted to say Maccabi fans pushed Ajax fans into the river. This would be very embarrassing for anyone. But this is the research that one of our largest police forces used to decide to ban Maccabi fans. Someone needs to be held accountable.

I'm not sure what the latest proposals are or if they will make much difference but... We heat our house with a woodburner and it is loaded up and burnt hot. Glass hardly has no soot on it after weeks of use and having burnt 50% leylandii that only had a year seasoning last winter the chimney had hardly any soot in it. I know a few people with woodburners that are only used to add ambiance and lit for a few hours of an evening and they soot up and smoke continuously regardless of what's used as the owners don't want heat but 'a look'. I'm not sure if new laws would help much but look forward to the papers moaning about police raids on people who've posted a photo of their fires on social media. I hope they also go after the farmers who still burn their silage plastic or all the bonfires that people leave smoulder for hours on end.

Handspraying two hectares of new woodland?
woody paul replied to Alan M's topic in Forestry and Woodland management
NO SPRAY GUARD NEEDED AS IN TUBES. 1 metre square is best. On all the spraying I did years ago would just band spray rows and then it would be mowed between rows. -
Bob, your a star; thanks for that, should be able to manage that; I'll bring to a engineering shop to press off and on bearings. I think its worth being able to fix our own stuff; as its a great skill. That big nut, I have a torgue multiplier, so if I get the socket, I should manage it!! Thats a fair weapon you have there!! Thanks again, Drew

The lowest hanging fruit is undoubtedly those still burning coal. SNP tried it in Scotland as I’m sure some on here are aware. Coal smoke is worse than wood smoke due to the variety of toxic pollutants it releases, including sulfur dioxide and heavy metals, while wood smoke is primarily composed of carbon dioxide and water vapor, which are less harmful. However, wood burning still releases fine particulate matter (PM2.5) that is damaging to health. It is crucial to burn responsibly by using dry, seasoned wood, as burning wet or unseasoned wood produces significantly more smoke and pollution.

We have been here before; the existential threat is from climate change due to CO2 and other gases effect on the atmosphere. The perceived problem from wood burning is particulates which contain soot and other products of incomplete combustion. Some of these , the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, are implicated in cancers, pulmonary and heart diseases. The first is a global problem the second largely, a local one. While large jet aircraft are a big contributor to the first problem I imagine they are fairly low on particulates nowadays. Because the controls on industrial combustion and agriculture have drastically reduced their emission of particulates since the early 90s and controls on diesel particulate emission have been introduced over the last 15 years I imagine the transport emissions have similarly fallen. That leaves other combustion as a source. Woodburning stoves burning low moisture content wood are several times better than open fire and we seldom resort to burning arisings on site now. So I do believe they are a significant contributor to PICs and particulates but its a proportion of a much smaller overall amount. OTOH most of the wood burned would simply rot back to CO2 and water if it were not for the firewood market so it is a positive contributor to displacing fossil fuels with little net affect on atmospheric CO2. Personally I feel the polyfluoroalkyl substances and the other microplastics we have in our bodies are likely more significant to heath.

Handspraying two hectares of new woodland?

Get a quad bike or 4x4 etc to tow around a couple of water barrels and your Glyphosate, in February/March . Med/coarse nozzle on knapsack. You won't need any spray guards if you spray before buds break into leaf. You won't need dye if working on your own. Mix in some flazasulphuron, for useful residual control element. You should manage around 500/day depending on the usual variables. -
Definitely not good, but your average suburban dweller with the designer wood stove is not burning painted scrap treated/painted wood are they? It's the suburban/urban areas that the government are looking at with regard to wood smoke pollution.

That and just trying to grasp the easiest low hanging fruit, just to be seen to be doing something. I imagine wood burner smoke is a very small proportion of the total air pollution, compared to the millions of cars and lorries on the roads and aircraft in the skies. Maybe they think they can cancel out the effects of all the extra runways they're intent on building, dreamers.

Lucky you. I imagine he is a pleasure to talk to. He had some good stuff to say when I heard him interviewed quite recently. I hadn't realised he was English until then.

Mici, Romanian beef and pork sausages. With a generous helping of sour cream and garlic, (raw). Bloody lovely.

We can both share Alex's vintage suet. I'm sure he won't mind posting it off.

weird, for all the things out there slating Trump, I rarely see art - the world has changed, video clips, ticktocks and twatterings - the quick fixes, but it takes a special effort to create proper artworks.

Chipper is making a right noise and have ordered new bearings, is it a big job? Ive changed bearings on stuff before so hoping this wont be any different. But would be great to get some advice and tips from anyone that has done this? Im thinking we chipped those bloody Cabbage Palms Cordyline australis way back and that did the damage as it blocked the chipper and problems started after!
