  1. Past hour
  2. I thought so too The “AI alert “ post was totally pointless
  3. I'm thinking of the bigger picture Davey. You should do the same occasionally. I thought I was fairly obviously talking globally. The UK is hardly known for it's plastics production industry is it? So no, I wasn't presenting you with an opportunity to hyjack yet another decent thread to push one of your tedious agendas. Keep up. Global plastic talks collapse as countries remain deeply divided WWW.BBC.CO.UK The latest round of UN-led talks have ended in deadlock, with disputes over plastic production and recycling. As if we're going to recycle our way out of this hole. Is that what you believe? I don't. Obviously the oil states are going to try to protect their revenues.
  4. No need to bicker, we have some common ground on this thread
  5. Grass will absolutely kill your trees via root competition for water. Plus voles will nest/find cover in it if thick (assuming no further grazing/cutting due to the trees) and eat your trees. 2000 trees should take about half a day or less for an experienced operator using a bog standard 15l knapsack, provided the trees are not miles away from each other. You don't want anything heavier on your back and there is no need for any convoluted contraptions or mechanical means as the trees are in shelters. Spray a circle around the base of the trees, make sure it is about a 1m across (0.5m radius) I suggest using Kerb Flo against the grass, it is a residual herbicide & doesn't affect anything else, even if you overspray the trees (no chance of that in the shelters anyway). Must be used in December and January, needs frost for activation. Light rain is helpful, don't spray when frozen or during heavy rain. Read the label, as usual. If the winter is as mild in your area as in mine, and or there are other things than grass are present you want to combine Kerb Flo with glyphosate even in the winter. This is all you need for the first season. If you did the Kerb right (you should end up with a bare patch of earth) and have nothing else growing on the field, you might not need to spray until the year after next. Docks and other nasties will conqueror the bare patch afterwards (or grass occasionally); as and when this happens go back with glyphosate April/May time each year. If you have strong bramble, you can use Grazon. Did I say always read the label and follow all relevant legislation, use of PPE and all that? Or pay someone to do it for you, if they know what are they doing should be done before lunchtime. Should be one man day plus some chemicals.
  6. I wonder, I would expect plastics to be a small part of oil use. OTOH I like wood based things. The firm I first harvested for made brush heads, cotton reels (who can remember making little machines to race with from a wooden cotton reels, lolly stick, rubber band and a disc cut from a candle?) , divan bed legs and other things I cannot remember. He said his sales dropped when the price of oil was low and firms like Addis could undercut him. Wooden tools could be re hafted and when their life was finished brushes and their natural fibre bristles just got eaten by fungi.
  7. The gene is strong tonight lad
  8. Incorrect The Labour government is shutting down the North Sea in an act of ideologically driven madness. Go across the line and see what the Norwegians are doing “ apart from selling more and more to the UK” @trigger_andy currently offshore over there at the minute and no doubt will verify they are absolutely flat out, in the meantime we are shedding jobs and revenue at a catastrophic rate. All due to Labours policies.
  9. AI alert! No need. Pretty sure we all know the ins and outs of burning wood. Given the forum, and even the thread title.
  10. A can of spray contact cleaner can work wonders followed by some wraps of self amalgamating tape.
  11. PFASs like plastics are just to damn useful and convenient. If they weren't then we wouldn't be in this predicament. Plastics of course are now being pushed on us even harder because the oil industry is starting to lose its fuel revenues. I think the long term effects are just beginning to be seen actually. Micro plastics and PFASs are both starting to be implicated in lots of serious health problems. Apparently someone did a study on the brains of Alzheimer's suffers, all had high concentrations of micro plastics present .............. too soon to decide between correlation and causation, but it's not going to be good news. Smoky wood burners will be small beer in comparison.
  12. So basically you're advocating sitting in the dark, probably semi nude unless it's woollen. As the dastardly acrylic clothing is killing the planet ?.
  13. Yes I missed that but no need to shout, Mr. Tuley hadn't gone into production then so we only had spiral guards , it was pre FEPA when I used pesticides. BTW I am not sanguine about exposing the bark of young broadleaves to glyphosate.
  14. It’s not a plot or a scam, the vertec is just better. Since getting one my RRP hasn’t come out of the truck once. There’s basically no break in period, it’s really easy to adjust and they’ve done away with the shitty slick pins. The pulley thing is a bit of a low move, but honestly, even without one it’s better than the RRP, I’m not rushing out to buy it.
  15. The thing is combustion derived pareticulates are implicated in the disease types I mentioned. Silicosis and asbestosis (pulmonary fibrosis) are caused by non combustion derived particulates that are ingested and enter cells. Tyres produce essentially micro plastic but the PFASs come from clothing, cooking utensils and industrial process chemicals, they are far more pervasive than I would have imagined. Because they are "forever chemicals" ,mostly only used since I was a teenager, the long term effects are yet to be seen, we breathe, eat and drink them by the million each day.
  16. FFS, long waffle about burning wood and co2. Well seeing as it's the same co2 released burning vs rotting.
  17. And very heavy
  18. I know, we've been here before a few times I believe. I agree with all of that. I was talking mainly talking about local air pollution, air quality, not global CO2 emissions. The elephant in the room that you didn't mention is the non-combustion particulates that come from cars and trucks. The brake and tyre dust predominantly. I believe that is probably now a bigger issue than engine emissions. Especially with all the bigger, heavier electric cars. That very rarely gets talked about in the promotion of EVs. It's something that requires far greater scrutiny. Urgently. Micro plastics, and the myriad of chemicals within them - yeah, that's the real demon here. We've only just found the tip of the iceberg, in terms of understanding the damage that they're doing to all of us. We're breathing/eating/drinking it in all the time.
  19. Update guys after dropping off to a Timberwolf approved dealer the problem was the plug under the hopper had (corroded pins) it’s the same plug I checked for my self I obviously dident know what the bad pins looked like as they all looked the same just a bit of green discolration so it’s been fixed but cost me a nice few quid for some pins in a plug 😫 hope this helps any one eles with this problem next time I think I’ll try and jump wires over the plug to the other plug wires to see if that works then get a new plug and wire up again when tested 👌 for the fault
  20. Not likely as, like the judiciary, the EA and LA environmental health departments have been starved of funds and cannot afford legal proceedings.
  21. Today
  22. Is there a way the post @aspenarb has pointed to can be tagged with #timberwolf #bearing #replace or some such that a search would find? As the thread title is not a help here.
  23. This story just took a turn for the worse. It turns out that when West Midlands police did their research into Maccabi Tel Aviv some of their information was just gleaned from social media with no double check. They had to admit yesterday in front of a select committee of MPs that their report even quoted a football match that never took place. And that an incident in Amsterdam last year where a Maccabi fan was pushed into a river was inverted to say Maccabi fans pushed Ajax fans into the river. This would be very embarrassing for anyone. But this is the research that one of our largest police forces used to decide to ban Maccabi fans. Someone needs to be held accountable.
  24. I'm not sure what the latest proposals are or if they will make much difference but... We heat our house with a woodburner and it is loaded up and burnt hot. Glass hardly has no soot on it after weeks of use and having burnt 50% leylandii that only had a year seasoning last winter the chimney had hardly any soot in it. I know a few people with woodburners that are only used to add ambiance and lit for a few hours of an evening and they soot up and smoke continuously regardless of what's used as the owners don't want heat but 'a look'. I'm not sure if new laws would help much but look forward to the papers moaning about police raids on people who've posted a photo of their fires on social media. I hope they also go after the farmers who still burn their silage plastic or all the bonfires that people leave smoulder for hours on end.
  25. NO SPRAY GUARD NEEDED AS IN TUBES. 1 metre square is best. On all the spraying I did years ago would just band spray rows and then it would be mowed between rows.
  26. Bob, your a star; thanks for that, should be able to manage that; I'll bring to a engineering shop to press off and on bearings. I think its worth being able to fix our own stuff; as its a great skill. That big nut, I have a torgue multiplier, so if I get the socket, I should manage it!! Thats a fair weapon you have there!! Thanks again, Drew
