Cordyline Australis

Little joe

I’ve just bought 2 palms from the local garden centre. They are both around 6 feet tall but one of them has new growth sprouting above the main body of leaves which by the size of its stalk has been allowed to grow for a while. The branches which are coming from this growth have little buds on them. These are my first ever palms and now I’m worried if I let this growth go on it will cause stability problems and maybe deficiency problems. Because I’m a novice  I need some expert advice.

We too have these trees newly planted this year.

We were advised to remove the flowers as the trees need to establish themselves rather than putting their energy into flowering.
