Fruit

I've had my first attempt at an apple. I don't know how others do it but I started between centres to get the main shaking done then put a foot on a couple of inches back from what would be the bottom of the apple and put it in a chuck to finish of with the top of the apple at the free end. I kept trying to shape the bottom as best I could until it parted and then sanded and oiled by hand. 2198d8b85e5221585e81055a5b29abe1.jpg

This is how the bottom turned out. I used a drill bit to scrape out the nub that was left

Try making a tapered jam chuck I use MDF on a face plate, then what ever fruit from plums to apples can be reverse mounted and the bottom gently finished and polished, I find sanding sealer and a light wax gives a good finish. The stalk can be made with a small dowel sharpened in a pencil sharpener to give a taper then cut at an obtuse angle, and as I said before a clove in the bottom finishes them of nicely.

Great shapes its difficult to make them look "real". nice work.
