Oak mantel piece

I finally decided to sand the oak mantel piece back to natural today. But I'm after a bit of advice on the best treatment for it. I've got Danish and pure tung oil to hand but don't mind buying a bottle if something else is more suitable. Thanks in advance

no i don't, just give it an ample coat for the first one and leave a few minutes to soak in a bit then wipe off any excess.

Danish for me to, a good drench coat as Steve says then further coats to build up the required finish. Smells good to.

A mate told me to linseed it but that would make the living room smell like a chippy lol. Danish it is.

I love the smell of Linseed oil, it's nowt like chip oil After I sand I usually wipe down with white spirit before I apply anything, it opens the grain and if there are any rough bits it lifts them so you can find them and sand again before the finish goes on.

One coat of Danish later.

Just got to give the burner a lick of paint now, oh yeah and bloody wallpaper. Wives!
