Pro Mac 55 - optional muffler??

Hi all

 

I have been given a 1980's Pro Mac 55 by a friend who knows i like to fiddle in the work shop

 

Having cleaned it out earlier of composted oily sawdust crud I thought I would run it up and see how it goes. 4th pull on the original fuel in it and away she goes.

 

How LOUD?!?! Geeze it was noisy!

 

Anyway, I was looking at the side of the cylinder block and it appears to have scope for an optional exhaust muffler?? Having googled the model there seems to be some with a muffler and some without and then there are some without but with a plate over the exhaust shown below to 'cap' it?

 

Does anyone have one? Know about this muffler or care to comment?

It looks more like someone read about the exhaust mod and overdid it I'd weld something up to box it in a bit and see what happened.

Think it definitely needs something, its like the exhaust port is open under the 'tray' that can be seen in the pic. No wonder its loud :-S

 

More googling required by the looks of it

of one shows a bit more detail, it looks like a plate over the top with a couple of louvre slots in it. It still looks noisy.

No, the old homelite saws had them, fitted just in front of the 'baffle', although they didn't work, nor was the saw much quieter
