Depending on the proposed use of the boards, if you cut pairs of boards off each time you rotate the log, the pairs can be 'book matched' I.e. Opened out a bit like butterfly wings with a matching pattern on each side. This can look really good for large items like table tops. I posted some pictures about a year ago of a burr oak sawn this way.

Hi thanks for the responses , I made a mess of this it's my first time posting and I made two threads! I would love to be able to cut and rotate but the log is too big for my mill and I have no chainsaw mill think I'm going to have to half it freehand and then mill it like was said on the other thread was just worried the quarter sawn boards would not look as good but having seen the pictures copford sawmills posted maybe it's not as bad as I taught. Halving it should be interesting:001_unsure:

Hmm, that location might be a bit more limiting.

The obvious suggestion is to get someone with a big chainsaw mill to take a set of slabs off the top, then the same off the bottom, so that the cant left is the right width to fit through your mill. If you want the slabs full width then get them cut to thickness, otherwise a single cut off the top and another off the bottom, to leave the cant the right width, then use a mini-mill to either edge it to the mill width or rip it up the middle.

Challenge is finding someone with a mill in the right location (I'm near Stansted and could become the flying miller......!)
