Mitox

I was in our local hire shop today to book a stump grinder. Happened to look at a Mitox combi system as i walked past it.It had got a Kawasaki engine in it, came with hedge cutter, pole saw, strimmer (inc line and brush cutter heads) and a extra extention pole all for under £500 !:001_smile:

My old long pole hedge cutter is near the end of its life, this whole set up is cheaper than a decend stihl hedge cutter or for a better comparision the stihl combi system engine alone is £450.

Has any one had any thing to do with these Mitox things? Is it value for a tool that only does a few jobs a year or a classic case of paying peanuts to get monkeys :laugh1:

Had a 62cc Mitox chainsaw for 2-3 years and after a few minor teething problems like bits falling off because screws were not being tightened enough it has been faultless and really reliable!! I recommended them to a friend only today!! Does the combi system have the 2year guarantee??

coppicer has two saws and he rates them as he says 2 year warrenty if it goes wrong he takes it back and gets it fixed. as yet not had to take either back as do not go wrong. all he does to them is swap chains overwhen one goes blunt and put a sharp chain on.

got to be worth the punt for what they are asking for them and with 2 year warrenty.

I am a Mitox dealer, and to be honest its not bad stuff.

BUT, it is not intended for pro users. It is only a domestic machine.

And as such will carry only a 90 day warranty for pro users.

The Kawasaki engine will be excellent, and carries a 3yr domestic warranty, but the rest is after all only Mitox.

If you are a Pro user, buy Pro kit, it will be the cheapest.

Yes Im a pro user but i only do about half a dozen hedge jobs a year, prob a day worth of strimmer use and all the rest is all domestic tree and woodland work. My hedge cutter at the mo is a old komatsu one that is about 15 year old and the strimmer is a cheap (and nasty from a users point but, nun the less, allways starts and does the job) ryobi and currently about 5 year old so i cant see me having a problem with it if its reasonable gear.

seems daft to pay a lot of money for kit i dont use much, If i earnt my living from hedges instead of trees i would be looking for the best available like i do with saws and my chipper.

As to the warranty does that mean i need to send the mrs in to buy it:lol:

I've run a Stihl hedgecutter head for 8 years with only one repair needed due to abuse. The polesaw head is 7 years and never had a spanner on it save for sprockets. Never broken a strimmer head.

I would buy a new FS-70 or even better an FS-94 (solid shaft, might not be launched yet though) for about £260 and then buy the hedgecutter, polesaw, tiller etc second hand off eBay as they are pretty bombproof.

Whatever you do don't buy a 4-mix combi system- nothing but hassle.
