550XP Air Filter Sealing

Just checked inside air intake and there seems to be a fair amount if dust in the there. Was expecting to see a clean intake pipe but definitely some dust residue in there after only a days work on a new saw. Is there a gasket between the filter and the housing or just a plastic to plastic seal? ( or lack of it)

Was not expecting this on a new £500 plus saw.

Anyone else had any problems or is there a seal / gasket missing on base of little yellow filter. No damage to filter .

My 550 and 576 all seem to let a fine dust through the filter to see in the throat of the carb. Done it since new i don't think they're short a seal. I do wonder if its worth getting a black filter rather than a yellow one. I think they're a finer mesh.

It all normal . All my saws have done that as far back as I can remember . I just wipe a finger of kitchen roll in there from time to time .

It just seems really bad on these new hi tech saws though. Nothing like the amount in the 346 and 372.

Well it's a crap design and will look into sealing the two filter halves and some form of heavy grease on those mating surfaces.

Done this on mine, as others said change to the black filter. May help but has never caused a problem.

I have the black filter on our 550 xp and habe only ever had a little dust res on intake its been in use. Over a year and a half

Will sort a black one then and ditch the crap original yellow one. Buggered if I am going to pay for one though and will be in dealers tomorrow claiming " not fit for purpose"
