Ua1 & 5
I'm thinking of doing my UA1 and possibly UA5. Does anyone have any suggested background reading that I could do before a) I decide whether to do them and/or b) I do the courses to give me a bit of a head start.

basic competencies for liveline work is UA2.2 for ground workers and UA2.3 for climbers.
UA 5 is surveying and would recomend a couple of years cutting before taking this. Ua 1 is straight forward vicinity zones and tree categories UA 2 is in 3 parts UA 2.1 tree ident UA 2,2 assisted felling/ insulated pole use UA 2.3 pruning around live lines from rope and harness UA 2 is a good course well worth doing, UA1 is also a good starting point

If you want a bit of reading, and background info, check out the NPTC assessment schedules
NPTC | Assignment Schedules UA1 assessment is the foundation assessment. http://www.nptc.org.uk/download.asp?...dule_aug06.pdf UA2.1 can only be taken after UA1 and must be taken before UA5 http://www.nptc.org.uk/download.asp?...ule_aug_06.pdf UA5 assessment can be taken after UA2.1 http://www.nptc.org.uk/download.asp?...dule_oct04.pdf NPTC are in the stage of updating the utility arb assessments in line with leglislation, so the assessments will change shortly (Jan 2010 was what I last heard  )Read through and if you have any questions, post a new thread on the forum, someone is sure to be able to explain or know the answer.
