Wykabor Powder

I was reading some the the previous messages specifically sections about protecting my milled timber from fungal attack. I think the general consensus was Wykabor Power is the way to go, but i can not seem to find it for sale anywhere on the net and i am sure when i first looked a few years ago it was.

Has it been withdrawn? replaced etc?

if so what is the best alternative?

also, at what point are the boards sprayed? straight off the mill, cleaned of sawdust then sprayed before stickering?

I have cut up a few tonne of oak and i am getting away with that ok air drying at the moment. It might be a different story when it comes to kilning but i ahve a few bits of spalted beach, cherry, birch and monkey puzzle which i am going to dry undercover and need to treat. thanks, John

I ran out over the Christmas period, so I got some from APC pure. It's about 1/5 of the price, doesn't dissolve quite as well and I can't comment on how well it performs yet as it's too cold for mould to form anyway.

I apply it with a paint roller, as aerosol borate isn't too clever. I clean the sawdust with a floor scraper, apply the borate and then stack.

Just looking into this- which product from APC? Boron Decahydrate or pentahydrate?

Amazon seems to have lots of people selling Wykabor- how does the price stack up with your previous buys?

I was just wondering about toxicity- Wikipedia seems to think that it has low toxicity for mammals 'similar to table salt'. But then all you have to do is think of the nasties that have happened to people working with Lead, Phosphorus and various other lovely elements.

No doubt the Boric Acid is not very nice depending on the strength.

10 or 5 water molecules to each boron ion. 10 dissolves easier but is weaker in concentration, 5 is harder to dissolve but is stronger in concentration.
