Tree officer quals

I thought I might fast track my research by posting here; into what direction to take towards qualifications that are available for someone wanting to move from climbing arborist towards tree officer for local authority. Perhaps someone has made the same transition/progression and could pass on their recommendation.

This plan is in it's infancy so I haven't read much detail on different qualifications and courses but I have followed some threads in the past, relating to online courses etc.

My current qualification is BTEC national diploma but I have a degree in an unrelated subject (archaeology).

Some relevant short courses would be good to know about too. I'm a bit out of touch with it all and don't know where to start!

I did what you are looking at 10 years ago. I did tech cert to get a job as urban forestry surveyor then worked my way up to TPO officer for a different authority 5 years later. I've just finished my L6 and I am also attending the TPO course at Malvern.

My advice would be go for the L4 with Treelife. Both L4 and L6 are very relevant to TO or consultancy work.

Good luck.
