Priming Injectors on a Kubota 35hp

Over the last 2 weeks of cold weather my Jensen Chipper with 35hp Kubota engine has started to run down then speed back up to normal. After reading some of the posts about condensation and goo in the fuel tanks (this stands out in a wood with a tarpaulin over it) I decided to drop the sediment bowl to see what was going on.

Sediment bowl had a small amount of dirt in the bottom so cleaned it out and refitted it, my questions are:

1) Is is normal for the fuel only to be drawn from the tank into the bowel with the engine turning over, I had expected to turn on the fuel tap once again, fill the bowl and start the engine. Only a small amount of fuel filled the bowl with each engine revoultion, almost flattened the battery before it finally started.

2) Should I have bled the air out of the system or are these self priming like a lot of cars now?

Thanks for your input

S.G.

Never undue the fuel pipes to the injectors at the high pressure pump. There should be a bleed screw on the pump and bleeding there should suffice. You may upset the pump by meddling on top of the fittings on top of it - this could result in a rough running engine with cylinders getting too much or too little fuel per cylinder.

Thanks for the replies

Yes I found the bleed screw, if the filter goes inside the sediment bowl, well there wasn't one, just the retaining ring, O ring and the clear plastic bowl, have to look into that!

On a good note Chipper worked fine all day afterwards.

The sediment bowls normally have a gauze filter at the top. Easy to miss.
