So wheres the best place to look for a second hand vermeer skid steer? Or are they the kind of thing that just don't come up?

I don't think that they have sold huge numbers of them so 2nd hand units are like hens teeth. By spreading your search for other makes, you will increase the chances of coming up with a similar tool carrier. Choice on those is limited as well. Stand on carriers are few and far between - look also at the Boxer for a start. Have a word with the people at Vermeer to see if there are any available in other markets, look at Mascus or Agriaffaires too. Good luck.

I spoke to Vermeer in Nivember and he said they were getting some in secondhand in Jan, I've not heard back about them yet though.
